Hopefully you’ve heard this before, but the IRS does not deliver new information via phone call, text or email. The IRS sends letters. There is an active scam right now where someone claiming to be an IRS agent will call you saying you are being sued by the IRS – don’t give them any personal information. These calls are even happening to employees of nonprofits where the scammer tells the person they are being sued for something the nonprofit did. If the true IRS calls you, it’s because you’ve already been communicating with them, and you should know the person calling you. New issues are presented by the IRS in letter format via snail mail. Be wary – even nonprofits aren’t exempt from fraud risk!
