Meet our team

Katy Avenson, CPA | Partner

Katy Avenson has over 17 years of experience providing tax, accounting and consulting services to nonprofits and small businesses. She enjoys helping nonprofits structure effective accounting systems and navigate the complex IRS rules for maintaining exempt status.

After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a Masters degree in accounting, Katy developed a passion for nonprofit tax consulting while working for two reputable local CPA firms.

Her interest in nonprofits extends beyond business and into the community through her board member positions and volunteer work with local organizations. She enjoys sharing her knowledge by leading training courses for nonprofit board members and accounting staff through the Austin Chapter of CPAs.

Katy was honored as a Rising Star by the Texas Society of CPAs for her active role with financial literacy initiatives, and she served on the board of directors for several years. She has served as a board member and volunteer with multiple organizations in the Austin area.

Kara Hamann, CPA, CMA | Partner

Kara Hamann brings sound operational and strategic planning skills to nonprofits and small businesses. Her experience in the accounting department of a public company and as a Controller for several local nonprofits formed a solid background in financial analysis and business management.

Kara began her career in the Washington D.C. area as an auditor working on federal and state government engagements. Since moving to Austin, she found her niche in nonprofit organization management. Kara’s experience leading the accounting teams at Rodeo Austin, Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Tribune developed her interest for establishing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.

A native of Pennsylvania, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Accounting from the University of Pittsburgh. Kara was named a Rising Star by the Texas Society of CPAs in 2013 for her contributions to the profession and the Austin community.

In addition to serving on the Austin Chapter of CPAs Oversight Council, she enjoys her role on the Board of Directors for Mainspring Schools.
